Prepaid Credit Cards Disadvantages

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

For all the advantages that you are offered by using prepaid credit cards, there are some disadvantages you need to be aware of. In this article I will go over these, and this should help you make better decisions when using these cards.

When using prepaid credit cards online, it is important to be aware of where you are shopping. Some sites will scam you, and you may find yourself paying for products or services which you never receive. Shopping online with a prepaid credit card can put you at risk for these types of scams.

When you go out shopping, it is important to check the balance of your card to make sure you have enough to get what you’re buying. You don’t want to stand in a long line waiting to buy something just to get to the cashier and realize you don’t have enough money.

This will frustrate and humiliate you. One of the disadvantages to using prepaid credit cards is unlike cash, there is no way for you to look in your wallet to figure out how much you have to spend. It is important go online and check your balance and transactions.

Another disadvantage to using prepaid credit cards is that many places and shops do not accept them. This is especially true when traveling to other countries, which may have cash based societies. Small restaurants and shops in foreign countries may only accept the local currency.

Because of this, it is important to carry around small amounts of cash at all times when traveling. Another problem with prepaid credit cards is the potential for abuse by merchants. Many people have complained that when they make a purchase at a restaurant or store, the merchant takes out more money than they’re supposed to.

This doesn’t happen with cash, because when you pay with cash merchants aren’t allowed to have access to your account. The best way to avoid this is to only shop at reputable locations, and check your balance immediately after making transactions. Sometimes mistakes do happen, and it is important for you to catch them as soon as possible.

The last issue that could be a problem when using a prepaid credit card is not being able to access your own money. Some people are frustrated to find that they are not able to withdraw their money from ATM machines when they need it the most. While this doesn’t happen often, it is another good reason to carry some cash at all times.

Payday Loan – Yes You Can Avoid Being Scammed

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

The payday loan industry has had a surge in recent months due to the downturn in the economy. It seems like there is an advance payday lender on every corner of every town and every city ready to give you a loan on your next paycheck. You can bet that where there are people struggling to make ends meet there is a payday loan shop set up nearby. And if that weren’t convenient enough there are a million websites ready to serve this need.

But it is exactly this environment of urgent need that makes the online payday industry such a fertile ground for online scammers and frauds. Websites that are guilty of everything from tricking people into signing up for 30 day trials that end up charging when the trial date is up to flat out identity theft.

But if you are looking to get a payday loan, yes you can do it without getting taken. The solution is so easy no one should ever have to worry about being taken while searching for a loan. The problem is consumers just don’t know to look for it.

What I am talking about is the CFSA seal. The CFSA , which stands for “The Community Financial Service Association” is a regulatory service set up to oversee the loan payday industry. Simply Put, they are there to help keep you from getting robbed. Every payday loan service and website that the CFSA monitors is required to place the CFSA seal on their website in plain view. This ensures that consumers who know will be able to find whether or not the websites they are searching are covered. If you are searching the Internet for a payday loan, yes you can feel safe provided you know to look for the CFSA seal while you are doing so.

Silver, Gold and Platinum Credit Cards

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Aside from all being precious metals; silver, gold and platinum also signify the difference between the various strata of credit cards available to cardholders. So, what’s the difference between you having silver, gold and platinum credit cards?

Besides the kudos of having a metallic covered card in a stratum higher than the one below it, with silver being considered the lowest, gold next and platinum at the peak, these days there really is little difference between each of these cards. Two noticeable exceptions are:

Spending Limit

Although the cards are supposed to signify a higher credit limit and spending power, in fact what they do is act as a signal as to you supposed income. This is because as you go up in the line of colors, so (supposedly) should your income – and thus your spending limit. The only problem with this is that while the platinum card used to be an ‘invite’ only card, these days the qualifying salaries for each of these cards are set so close together that you do not really need to earning that much in order to qualify for a platinum card!

Membership Fees

These days the amount you need to pay in annual membership fees to card providers is the biggest difference between these types of credit cards. In part due to kudos element, card issuer feel at liberty to charge cardholders of platinum cards far more than they do to those who hold silver cards, which may, indeed, even be free of a membership fee!

So, while your spending limit may not be that significantly higher having a platinum card rather than a silver card, your membership fee almost certain will. The decision that you have to make, assuming you qualify, is whether you are willing to pay that extra amount in membership fees to have a higher ranking card. And by adopting a policy of silver, gold and platinum credit cards, the issuers are banking on you doing wanting just that!

Affordable Health Insurance – Health Insurance For The Self Employed

Monday, July 13th, 2009

One of the things that is important to consider when you leave corporate America for the freedom of your own business is affordable health insurance. In fact, the reason most often cited for NOT taking the plunge into self-employment is the lack of cheap health insurance alternatives for people who are not employed by a company that can offer more affordable rates on health insurance through a group health insurance plan.

If you do decide to brave it and be your own boss, there are many places where you can cut corners. Letting yourself or your family go without health insurance isn’t one of them. Here are some common options that can make health insurance affordable if you’re a self-employed entrepreneur or crafter.

Coverage under a Spouse’s Plan

By far the most common option is to cover the family for health insurance through a spouse’s employer. As long as one member of the couple is working for a company that has a group health insurance plan, it’s usually the cheapest option for insuring the entire family.

COBRA

COBRA is an option for the beginning of your self-employment. For the first several months after you leave your job, your employer is required by law to give you the option of retaining membership in their health insurance plan. You will have to cover the entire monthly premium paid by your company rather than the amount that you’re used to paying as an employee when your employer was covering part of the cost. The true cost of that insurance can come as a shock to you – a family health insurance through a group can easily cost close to $1000 a month. It’s still more affordable than most plans that you can purchase as an individual. It’s also only temporary, so you should be looking for other health insurance options while you’re still covered.

A Health Insurance Cooperative with Other Self-employed and Small Business Owners

There are national and local organizations of self-employed workers who have banded together to combine their buying power and get affordable health insurance premiums through group policies. You can find more information about groups in your area through the National Association for the Self Employed (www.nase.org) or the American Association of Home-Based Businesses (www.aahbb.org).

Group Health Insurance for the Self-Employed

In many states like Maine, health insurance companies offer affordable group policies for groups of one. You may have to shop around to find a company that does, but there are benefits other than being a cheaper policy. The most important of these is that they MUST cover everyone in the group, regardless of health conditions. This is important for someone who may have been turned down for an individual health insurance policy because of health.

No matter what, it is vital that you insure yourself and your family against the possibility of illness or accident. There are cheap alternatives to individual health insurance plans for the self-employed.

Cash Advance Company – How to Choose a Cash Advance Lender

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Cash advance companies differ in how soon they deliver money, structure
their fees, and process applications. To find a payday loan that best
fits your needs, decide what you most want – speedy money, low fees, or
an easy application process. Then do a quick scan of lenders to find
the best match. In just a few minutes, you can find the perfect cash
advance company for you.

Decide What Service You Most Want

When you start looking for a lender, decide what you most want out of a
payday lender. If you are looking for speedy cash in a matter of hours,
expect to pay higher finance fees. However, if you are willing to wait
a little longer or fax in some documentation, you can find lower fees
for larger amounts.

By prioritizing your needs, you can focus your search on payday loan
lenders that are most relevant. In a few minutes, you can search for the
company with the best delivery time, rates, or application process.

The Differences In Lenders

Online payday loan applications make for speedy loans, often processed
in a matter of minutes. In general you will get your cash the next
business day, but there are companies who process funds in less than an
hour. These companies usually have higher fees since they have staff 24
hours a day.

For the easy application process, go with a faxless program. That way
you won’t have to search for your pay stub or bank records. With
databases, lenders are able to verify your application without paperwork.

The lowest rates are usually found with lenders that require additional
documentation. By having you fax in copies of your financial
information, they reduce the risk of fraud and pass the savings onto you.

Where To Search For Payday Loan Lenders

With the internet, you can search for payday loan lenders from across
the country. With so many choices, you can be sure to find the right
company no matter where you live.

Start with recommended lenders and look at their website for
information on their loan program. Also feel free to email the company if you
need more details to make a decision.
